HTYC Has Reached International Cutting-edge Level in the Scientific and Technological Achievements in Core Technology and Key Equipment Integration Innovation for Ultra-large Coke Dry Quenching

Dec. 12th, 2024, China Iron and Steel Association organized a scientific and technological achievement evaluation meeting on "Integrated Innovation of Core Technologies and Key Equipment for Ultra-large-scale Coke Dry Quenching" in Beijing. The evaluation committee, composed of 11 authoritative experts from the industry including Academician Mr.Yin Ruiyu and Academician Mr. Mao Xinping of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, evaluated the scientific and technological achievement of "Integrated Innovation of Core Technologies and Key Equipment for Ultra-large-scale Coke Dry Quenching" jointly completed by Huatai Yongchuang (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Huatai Yongchuang), Shanxi Xinshi Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Shanxi Xinshi), University of Science and Technology Beijing, and Jianlong Sichuan Boiler Co., Ltd. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Li Yu, deputy director of the Science and Technology and Environmental Protection Department of the China Iron and Steel Association and director of the Metallurgical Technology Development Center. Many leaders of the completing units, including Mr. Xu Lie, chairman of Huatai Yongchuang, Mr. Zheng Shihua, chairman of Shanxi Xinshi, Mr. Zhang Xinyu, assistant to the president of Beijing Jianlong Heavy Industry Group, and Professor Zhang Xinxin of University of Science and Technology Beijing, attended the meeting.

Chairman Xu Lie presented the project research content and outcomes on behalf of the project team. Huatai Yongchuang, in collaboration with relevant institutions, commenced with theoretical research, employing numerical simulation and experimental studies. Through engineering design, construction and operation, multiple key technological innovations were achieved. The principal outcomes and innovations are as follows:

1.Developed core technologies and key equipment for ultra-large-scale coke dry quenching, achieving uniform and effective cooling of ultra-large coke dry quenching; successfully developed the world's largest coke dry quenching unit at 270 tons per hour, operating stably at full capacity, enabling 100% scale matching between coke dry quenching units and coke ovens; Pioneered the technology of a single coke dry quenching unit serving four coke oven batteries, correspondingly reducing operational energy consumption by approximately 10%.

2. Developed an optimized structural design for the coke dry quenching furnace body and control technology for the stable and safe operation of the coke dry quenching apparatus has achieved extended service life for the coke dry quenching system. The interval between major overhauls has increased from five to over eight years, while the annual maintenance interval has been extended from 12 to 18 months to 28 months. The coke dry quenching efficiency has risen from 95% to over 99%.

3. Core technologies and key equipment for utilizing waste heat from large-scale coke dry quenching have been developed. The world's first ultra-large coke dry quenching with ultra-high-temperature, ultra-high-pressure intermediate reheat power generation system has been constructed. Pioneering energy-saving and emission-reduction technologies such as smokeless charging and discharging with low dust removal air volume have been introduced, increasing power generation per ton of coke from 150-170 kW·h under high-temperature, high-pressure conditions to 190-210 kW·h.

The Evaluation Committee heard the presentation by Mr. Xu Lie, Chairman of Huatai Yongchuang, and reviewed the relevant documentation. Following questioning and discussion, the expert panel unanimously concluded that this scientific achievement represents an internationally leading standard.

In the future, Huatai Yongchuang will continue to leverage its technological innovation strengths, further optimizing and refining each process stage of coke dry quenching to enhance its overall energy efficiency, thereby supporting the coking industry's transition towards green and low-carbon operations.
